Ceramic Inventory

The data files CERAMICS.TXT and CERAMICS.XLS provide a breakdown of ceramics by type for each asssemblage collected at each of the sites identified by the Laguna La Herrera survey. CERAMICS.TXT is a comma delimited ASCII text file; CERAMICS.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line in the comma delimited file represents one site. There are 13 lines, each with 15 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:

1 Site number
2 Number of Mosquera sherds with Crushed Rock Temper
3 Number of Mosquera Red Incised sherds
4 Number of Funza Abundant Quartz Sherds
5 Number of unsatisfactorily defined sherds
6 Number of Mosquera Porous sherds
7 Number of Guatativa Sherd Temper sherds
8 Number of Funza Fine Quartz sherds
9 Number of possible Tunjuelo Fine Quartz sherds
10 Number of Guatativa Gray Temper sherds
11 Number of Tunjuelo Sandy sherds
12 Number of Funza Hard Laminar sherds
13 Number of Tunjuelo Laminar sherds
14 Number of unclassified sherds
15 Total number of sherds

The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:

MSQ-5,61,28,8,0,4,20,3,0,0,0,0,0,47,171

This indicates that these sherds belong to site MSQ-5. The collection contained 61 Mosquera sherds with Crushed Rock Temper; 28 Mosquera Red Incised sherds; 8 Funza Abundant Quartz Sherds; 0 unsatisfactorily defined sherds; 4 Mosquera Porous sherds; 20 Guatativa Temper sherds; 3 Funza Fine Quartz sherds; 0 possible Tunjuelo Fine Quartz sherds; 0 Guatativa Gray Temper sherds; 0 Tunjuelo Sandy sherds; 0 Funza Hard Laminar sherds; 0 Tunjuelo Laminar sherds; 47 unclassified sherds; for a total 171 sherds within the entire collection.

The last, or 13th line of the ASCII text file is:

MSQ-17,0,16,4,0,4,7,231,13,0,6,1,0,0,282

This indicates that these sherds belong to site MSQ-17. The collection contained 0 Mosquera sherds with Crushed Rock Temper; 16 Mosquera Red Incised sherds; 4 Funza Abundant Quartz Sherds; 0 unsatisfactorily defined sherds; 4 Mosquera Porous sherds; 7 Guatativa Temper sherds; 231 Funza Fine Quartz sherds; 13 possible Tunjuelo Fine Quartz sherds; 0 Guatativa Gray Temper sherds; 6 Tunjuelo Sandy sherds; 1 Funza Hard Laminar sherd; 0 Tunjuelo Laminar sherds; 0 unclassified sherds; for a total 282 sherds within the entire collection.
