Barranca Settlement Dataset

This dataset complements the book Multiscalar Analysis of a Precolumbian Village in Costa Rica: Barranca (A-372 Ba) (available from the University of Pittsburgh Center for Comparative Archaeology). It provides information on pre-Columbian remains recovered during survey and excavations in the region near the site of Barranca, Costa Rica.

Numeric Data

Numeric data are provided in two file formats. Comma-delimited text files can be imported into spreadsheet, database, and statistical programs for manipulation and analysis. Excel spreadsheets are easier to browse, and can also be imported into many programs. The numeric data files are as follows:

Spatial Data

Spatial information is provided as AutoCAD (Release 12) DXF and Esri SHP files, which can be read by many CAD and GIS programs. AutoCAD drawing units are in meters. The coordinate system for all spatial data is UTM Zone 16 N (units are meters) based on the WGS84 datum.
