The data files REGISTRY.TXT and REGISTRY.XLS provide information about each bag collected within the Pedregal site. REGISTRY.TXT is an ASCII text file, and REGISTRY.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line represents one bag. There are 2858 lines in the text file, each with 9 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:

Bag number |

Context. The number assigned to each distinct excavation context. |

Sector. Designates the sector of the site (A-E) where the bag is from. |
4 |
Area. Designates specific areas within each sector where the bag is from. |
5 |
Unit. Designates excavation unit (1-6) or test pit (PP1-33) where the bag is from. |
6 |
Feature. Designates discrete features (hearths, postholes, storage pits, etc) within units where the bag is from. |
7 |
Level. For non-feature contexts, designates the natural level beginning with the surface (00) where the bag is from. For feature contexts, designates the natural level within the feature. |

The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:

This indicates that this registry pertains to bag 1, gathered from context 0, sector A, area 1, unit 0. It is not from any specific feature. Since it is surface collection, the level is noted as 00. The material in the bag is Ceramic. Additional comments note "Recoleccion superficial del cementerio 1."
The last, or 2858th, line of the ASCII text file is:
2816,492,A,6,5,L,1(9),MT,raspado al interior de vasija
This indicates that this registry pertains to bag 2816, gathered from context 492, sector A, area 6, unit 5. It belongs to feature L, from level 1(9). The material in the bag is a soil sample. Additional comments note "raspado al interior de vasija."
