Basketry

The data files CESTERIA.TXT and CESTERIA.XLS contain information about each weaved basket fragment uncovered at the Pedregal site. CESTERIA.TXT is an ASCII text file, and CESTERIA.XLS contains the same data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Each line represents one basket fragment. There are 16 lines in the text file, each with 11 variables separated by commas. The variables are, in the following order:

Item description

The first line of the ASCII text file, for example, looks like this:

1080,PP16,32,0.4,2,Z,10YR 6/3 pale brown,Vegetable fiber,Rope/Soguilla,Good,Fragmento de soguilla delgada.

This indicates that the bag number is 1080, from unit PP16. The artifact is 32 cm long and 0.4 cm wide. It is composed of 2 strands and a Z type torsion. Its Munsell color is 10YR 6/3 pale brown. It is made of Vegetable fiber and it is a Rope/Soguilla. Its condition is listed as good. The description reads "Fragmento de soguilla delgada."

The last, or 16th, line of the ASCII text file is:

2309,4,1.6,0.3,2,S,10YR 6/3 pale brown,Vegetable fiber,Rope/Soguilla,Good,Fragmento de soguilla muy delgada.

This indicates that the bag number is 2309, from Unit 4. The artifact is 1.6 cm long and 0.3 cm wide. It is composed of 2 strands and an S type torsion. Its Munsell color is 10YR 6/3 pale brown. It is made of Vegetable fiber and it is a Rope/Soguilla. Its condition is listed as good. The description reads "Fragmento de soguilla muy delgada."
